The 1980s: This was an era of rampant change in gaming. Between 1981 and 1989, it is almost impossible to recognize the place. Perhaps you got your start on a Commodore 64 or the Apple II, or perhaps you rallied your ColecoVision into the deep hours of the night. By the end of it there were 16-bit consoles, hand held gaming and the establishment of entirely new gaming genres like the RPG! Nintendo unleashed franchises that still command sequels to this day! Sound cards made their way into PCs matching VGA graphics with a hi-fidelity audio experience. As if that wasn't enough, online gaming made its presence known with BBSs and MUDs. Sure you picked your way through ANSI graphics, but that didn't change the fact that you could interact with hundreds of people all over the world in real-time. The social nature of the arcade was back in virtual form. It truly was a golden age of gaming... and you were there to see it all.
